Boudreau wins Silver at Canadian Age Group Swim Champs
Winnipeg, MB - Luc Boudreau of the Wolfville Tritons Swim Club was the silver medalist in the Men's 17-18 year old 50m Breaststroke at the 2010 Canadian Age Group Swimming Championships in Winnipeg, MB on Wednesday.
Boudreau clocked a new personal best of 30.40 seconds in the event to clinch the silver medal position on the opening day of the five day meet, attended by over 1400 swimmers from across Canada.
"The 50m Breast isn't one of my stronger events, so I'm looking forward to my 100m and 200m Breaststroke events later in the meet," Boudreau said.
The 18 year old New Minas native is the provincial record holder for boys aged 15-17 for the 50m Breaststroke in both a short course (25m) and long course (50m) pool, and also hold the 100m and 200m short course records for the same age group. Since turning 18 earlier in the season, he's positioned himself to overtake many of the senior records for the same events.
"I still have another week of competition coming up next week in Victoria, so I'm hoping I'll be able to get one of the senior provincial records there," Boudreau added, referring to next week's 2010 Summer Nationals and Pan Pacific Trials in Victoria.
Boudreau will be attending Acadia University in September, and continuing to swim out of the Wolfville pool under coach Chris Stone.
The four other Tritons also in the meet all posted new personal bests in Wednesday's racing. Hayden Adams swim the 200m Backstroke in a time of 2:24.64, Sarah Lynch took two seconds off in her 50m Breaststroke for a time of 36.82, and brothers Brendan and Colin Vibert posted times of 18:14.15 and 17:51.89 respectively in the 1500m Freestyle.
Competition resumes Thursday morning at the Pan Am Games Pool in Winnipeg, MB.
