Tritons Finish in Third Place at 2010 Short Course East Coast Champs

Charlottetown, PEI - The Wolfville Tritons Swim Club finished the 2010 Short Course East Coast Championships in a strong third place position in the overall points Sunday night.

"With only 16 swimmers in the meet, I'm very happy with our final standing," said the Tritons' head coach Chris Stone.

"The only two teams who could best us outnumber us by at least a 2 to 1 margin, and we scored more points per swimmer than any other club at the meet," he went on to say.

Leading the way on Sunday night was Tritons' senior male Luc Boudreau, winning the 50m Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley.

Boudreau won five events over the three and a half day meet, and also won the title of "Male Swim of the Meet," scoring the most points on the international rankings chart for his 100m Breaststroke time of 1:03.05, which ranks him second in the country for his age.

On the women's side, the MacPherson sisters of Ceilidh, Kristen and Rebecca all posted medal placings on Sunday night, and were major contributors to the Tritons point total over the weekend. Swimmers Nicole Campbell, Mary Claire Lynch and Kayla Boudreau also medaled on Sunday evening, with Carlena Eye, Sarah Lynch and Kassandra Parsons also scoring with top-8 swims.

Tritons Adam Deutsch, Hayden Adams and Brendan Vibert also had a successful meet, qualifying for the 2010 Canadian Age Group Championships in Winnipeg this summer. That brings the team total up to a record setting 11 Tritons qualified for the meet.

"We've had an exceptional end to our short course season, and are looking very strong as we head into long course through the spring and summer," said Coach Stone.

Three Tritons will be competing at the end of the month at Spring Nationals in Montreal. Luc Boudreau, Nicole Campbell and Ceilidh MacPherson will all be swimming in the senior level meet, which will also serve as a selection meet for the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships this summer.
