Tritons Continue Top Performances in Charlottetown
Charlottetown, PEI - The Wolfville Tritons continue to be a force to reckon with after the third day of competition at the 2010 Short Course East Coast Championships. Following Saturday's finals session, the 16 swimmer contingent from the Tritons sit in third place, 44 points behind the St. John's Legends team of 36 swimmers.
"Our swimmers are very much at the forefront of the performances in the pool and are setting the tone of the meet," said Tritons head coach Chris Stone.
"Outnumbered by more than 2 to 1 by the two teams ahead of us, we're sitting in third place, with a strong day ahead on Sunday," Stone added.
Leading the way was Luc Boudreau, who won both the men's 15 & over 100m Breaststroke and 400m Individual Medley events. Boudreau's swim of 1:03.05 in the 100m Breast ranks him number 2 in all of Canada for swimmers his age, and in the top 20 overall for the event.
Added to the Tritons' Age Group National team was first year Triton Hayden Adams in the men's 50m backstroke with a time of 29.58. This takes the number of Tritons qualified for the summer meet to a record setting 10 swimmers for the club.
Not to be outdone are the Triton women, who turned in a number of medal performances over the evening.
The senior girls relay of Mary Claire Lynch, Kristen MacPherson, Nicole Campbell and Ceilidh MacPherson won their third of three relays at the meet in the 4x50m freestyle relay for 15 & over women with a new WTSC club record of 1:49.62. The Tritons' women's 15 & over "B" relay and 13-14 year old relays both posted 4th place finishes.
Ceilidh MacPherson and Campbell turned in gold and silver medals in the 15 & over women's 200m Freestyle, with Lynch finishing in 6th.
"The team is feeding off of each others excitement about their performances and looking stronger and stronger as we head into the home stretch," said Coach Stone.
Competition resumes Sunday morning at the CARI Complex in Charlottetown.
