Good Showing by Tritons on Second Day of 2010 East Coast Champs

Charlottetown, PEI - The Wolfville Tritons Swim Club put in a solid effort on the second day of the 2010 Short Course East Coast Championships in Charlottetown, PEI. Following the end of Friday's finals the Tritons sit comfortably in third place overall.

"Given that the two teams ahead of us outnumber our club by at least 3 to 1, I'm very happy with the team's performances thus far," said Tritons' head coach Chris Stone.

At the end of Friday's finals, the Tritons had set two new club records, qualified one new member to their national team, and won several events.

Rebecca MacPherson began the evening with a new personal best and gold medal swim in the 13-14 women's 100m backstroke with a time of 1:08.27.

Brendan Vibert became the ninth swimmer from WTSC to qualify for the 2010 Canadian Age Group Championships with his bronze medal performance in the men's 13-14 200m breastroke.

Luc Boudreau's time of 2:16.91 in the men's 200m breaststroke was good enough for a gold medal and a new WTSC club record. His swim also scored the most FINA points, setting the men's standard for highest performance of the meet thus far on the international points chart used for ranking swimming performances.

Swimmers Ceilidh MacPherson and Nicole Campbell both turned in a gold and bronze medal swim in the senior women's 400m Freestyle.

The Tritons' senior women's team of Kristen MacPherson, Kayla Boudreau, Mary Claire Lynch and Ceilidh MacPherson turned in another gold medal relay swim and WTSC club record in the 200m Medley Relay.

On the men's side, the senior team of Adam Deutsch, Luc Boudreau, Hayden Adams and Colin Vibert posted another upset with a bronze medal swim of 1:55.93.

"Overall, I was very pleased with today's swims, and am sure that we'll have some more great performances as the weekend continues," surmised Coach Stone.

The Tritons will be back in the water Saturday morning at the CARI Complex in Charlottetown, PEI for preliminaries, with the three and a half day competition wrapping up on Sunday evening.
