Solid Showing by Tritons on Frist Night of 2010 East Coast Champs

Charlottetown, PEI - The Wolfville Tritons Swim Club put in a strong showing on the first day of competition at the 2010 Short Course East Coast Championships. Following Thursday's competition, the Tritons sit in second place overall.

"We've had some exceptional swims tonight," said WTSC Head Coach Chris Stone.

Leading the way was Rebecca MacPherson with a gold medal performance in the women's 13-14 year old 1500m freestyle, with a new personal best of 18:48.67. Older sisters Ceilidh and Kristen MacPherson and Nicole Campbell finished in the women's 15 & over years old category in 3rd, 4th and 5th positions.

On the men's side were solid performances from Luc Boudreau and Colin Vibert in the men's 15 & over years old 800m freestyle, who finished 4th and 5th respectively, while swimmers Brendan Vibert and Adam Deutsch put in new personal best performances in the men's 13-14 year old category in the same event.

There were medal winning performances all around in the 400m freestyle relays for the Tritons, beginning with the women's 13-14 year old team of Stella Champion-Keating, Carlena Eye, Kassandra Parsons & Rebecca MacPherson posting a bronze medal performance and new club record.

In the 15 & over age category, the women's "A" relay team of Mary Claire Lynch, Kristen MacPherson, Nicole Campbell & Ceilidh MacPherson posted a gold medal swim and new club record with a time of 3:56.83, while the women's "B" relay of Sarah Lynch, Kassandra Parsons, Rebecca MacPherson & Kayla Boudreau finished in 4th place.

In the men's relay, the Tritons' men's team of Luc Boudreau, Colin Vibert, Hayden Adams & Brendan Vibert pulled off an upset to win a bronze medal with a time of 3:46.93.

"With only 16 swimmers here, we're already well on our way to placing well at the meet once again this year," he added. The Tritons finished in second place at the same meet in 2009, but with 19 swimmers at the competition.

Competition resumes Friday morning with preliminaries at the CARI Complex in Charlottetown, PEI, and will last until Sunday night.
