Wolfville & Acadia Coach Recipient of 2010 Swim Canada Mentorship
Ottawa, ON - Swimming Canada announced today the names of the five recipients of the domestic coaching mentorship bursary for 2010; a new initiative that was introduced in November of 2009.
Among those named was Chris Stone, head coach of the Wolfville Tritons Swim Club & Acadia University Varsity Swimming.
"This is a tremendous learning opportunity for me," said Stone. "I'm very excited to be presented the opportunity to work and learn along side of some of the world's best coaches and swimmers."
Stone will be traveling to Vancouver to work with coaches Jozsef Nagy, coach of World Record Holder Annamay Pierse, and Tom Johnson, Head coach of the National Swimming Centre and Coach of World Champion Brent Hayden.
“Developing great coaches is an important part to being a successful swimming nation,” said Pierre Lafontaine, CEO and National Coach for Swimming Canada. “Our mentorship program allows the next wave of coaches to learn from our best coaches, and by developing a strong base of coaches in Canada, we will produce a greater depth in our program”
Stone has been head coach of the Wolfville Tritons Swim Club since 2006, and is in his first season as the head coach of the recently returned Acadia Varsity mens' & womens' swim teams.
